Dear Prospective Prep Student:

Thank you for your interest in Saint Peter’s Prep! As you begin your search for a high school, you should ask yourself a few questions:

First, what is it that you are looking for in a high school?

Second, what can you bring to the school to make it a better place?

Third, are you ready to make a commitment to what the school says it stands for?

You need to answer the first two questions yourself, but I may be able to offer some information to help you with the third one. You may have heard that Prep is a Jesuit school—in fact, the only one in the entire state of New Jersey and one of just about 50 Jesuit high schools in the United States today.

The tradition of Jesuit education goes back over 400 years, when St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits (an order of priests in the Catholic Church) opened their first school in Messina, Sicily. Ever since then, students have been challenged to learn and grow in ways that have literally helped them to change the world and how they view themselves in it. That began here in Jersey City at the corner of Grand and Warren Streets in 1872 and continues to this day.

Every day, students and teachers are challenged both inside and outside of the classroom to become the best people they can be and to seek God in all things. As a Jesuit school, we feel that your growth and development outside the classroom—whether on a team or as a member of one of our dozens of clubs and activities—is as important as your development inside the classroom.

Take some time to look at the website and get a glimpse of what Prep is about. Speak to current students you may know or relatives or friends who are Prep graduates. Spend some time with us here during an Open House or as a Freshman for a Day. Then think about whether Prep is a good fit for you and you are willing to dedicate yourself to the values we have held so proudly for 135 years.
